Based on a survey that examined the importance of security industries and the opportunities this sector presents, the states of Berlin and Brandenburg drafted a security industries and research master plan in the 2nd half of the year 2008. It is a guideline for action to be taken in the coming years and is itself a leading project from the focus sector "Media/ICT" defined in the Berlin-Brandenburg joint innovation strategy.
The focus is on the development of the following 5 areas:
- Secure identity
- Secure infrastructure
- IT-security /security with IT
- Security and society
- Urban security
The states support the large number of projects in these fields by means of subsidies for R&D projects and investments, technology transfer, placing orders, events and lobbying.
Berlin and Brandenburg are the first states in Germany who have systematically recognised and promoted security industries as a new future opportunity.
