There are more than 300 companies in Berlin und Brandenburg working in the civil security field. Their total security induced turnover is around € 1.2 billion per year, the number of their security related employees is about 30,000. Half of these companies have only been founded in the last ten years. Since 2003, the annual growth rate has been around 18%.
The security technology, IT-security and security services sectors are strongly represented in and around the German capital. More than 40 research facilities at universities, colleges, Fraunhofer institutes and Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft facilities are researching the topic of security. Several colleges offer courses in security & safety-relevant fields.
